Did you know that there are Aliens on planet earth? Conspiracy theories abound about life in outer space and how “They” live amongst us. Humorously, that does give us great pause when we think of all that is going on in our world. But what if it is true? What if there are beings on this planet that are not of this world?
About 10 years ago, we did a Children’s Camp at the beach. Our theme was Aliens. We learned that as Christians, the Bible refers to us as Aliens. The Bible tells us that we are not of this world and that our citizenship is in Heaven. Of course we did not teach them that we are actually Aliens but we did learn that earth is not our actual home. We were made to fellowship with God and our eventual goal is to live forever in heaven with Him and how that is only possible if we ask Him to be our Savior and then live for Him each day.
We learned that while we are on earth, we are to be ambassadors for Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 and 20 we read,” Therefore, if anyone be in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away and behold, all things have become new… Now we are AMBASSADORS for Christ”.
What does it mean to be an Ambassador for Christ? We learned that once we accept Christ as our Savior, we can no longer live doing, thinking and saying whatever we want. We are representatives for the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE who made us in HIS IMAGE and calls us HIS CHILDREN. We learned that what we say and how we act is a direct reflection of who we say God is.
So what’s the point?
Now more than ever we need to be Ambassadors for Christ. This word is not our home. We are passing through. There are so many questions we could ask ourselves. What kind of Ambassador are we? Do we represent ourselves more that God? Do we represent our political party our personal views more than we represent God? Are we studying His Word so that we can be better ambassadors, or are we more like travel agents?
What about our kids? Each generation takes a small step away from being what God has called us to be. We are content with our relationship with Him. Is our walk just “good enough”? We make our kids do all manner of things that have no bearing on their spiritual life because what we are doing spiritually is “good enough”. Our love and respect for God is “good enough”. Our service to Him is “good enough” What kind of Ambassadors would represent their country, their GOD as good enough?
Our 5 day ALIEN CAMP taught kids how to serve God, how to love God and how to be great Ambassadors for Him. The kids had a great time, they learned a lot, but, the church can do just so much. It is in the home where our kids will learn to be true Ambassadors for Christ.
First, we as parents and grandparents must be TRUE AMBASSADORS for Christ. The Bible says that this world is not our home and that we are sojourners. Heaven is our home. Let’s all make a strong effort to be great ambassadors for Christ. Let’s not be ambassadors for things that don’t matter in the spiritual life of our families. A good homework assignment might be to make a list of all the things that are important to your family and then rank them in the matter of importance. That is a simple way to show you what you are an Ambassador of.
