The starting point about what we believe is Jesus. We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who came to the earth as God in the flesh to show God’s love for sinners through His death on the cross. This is the great truth, or first principle of Christianity. We believe that through faith in Jesus Christ we can have complete forgiveness of sin and a personal relationship with God. We believe that salvation is a personal, individual experience which comes through an understanding of the death of Christ on the cross for our sin and a personal commitment to Christ as Lord of one’s life.
Baptists are also known as “people of the Book.” That means we accept the Bible as the Word of God, divinely inspired and wholly trustworthy. We do not believe that the Bible does not merely contain the word of God, but is the Word of God. “It is the perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error, for its matter.
